Without understanding what's so special about Israel it is difficult to muster the spirit needed to stand firm in the face of the many challenges and threats facing the nation.

•  Israel is special because of the two-millennia prayer that  preceded its modern renaissance.
•  Israel is special because no other nation on earth has  survived such a long exile and then become resurrected again.
•  Israel is special because it offers a haven to all Jews.
•  Israel is special because of the hope for a better world,   implicit in its very existence.
•  Israel is special because half of the world uses its founding  document − the Bible − as a moral manual.
•  Israel's specialness is confirmed by the constant condemnation voiced against it by other nations, whenever it does precisely what any other country would do when its citizens and territory are bombed. From its inception Israel has been given pariah status in the international community simply for defending itself against annihilation. The uniqueness of the situation indicates that there might very well be a cosmic message here.

Yet most Israelis seem to have allowed the specialness of their nation to slip their minds. This has a weakening effect on the country.
